Where are the humans?

When the wind took a stroll,
It found no familiar scenes,
No morning rush to schools,
No chaos before reaching offices,
Nothing moved on the wheels,
No smoke laced the wind,
Where are they?
It asked the trees,
“Oh, its been a while, I saw a few with masks, but not many”
It asked the birds,
“They have lost it, not many step out of their homes”
It wandered through unusual emptiness,
Maybe half of them are dead,
Maybe they are missing,
It wondered if they were hiding,
When the wind got past a few windows,
It found apprehension,
There was separation,
There was isolation,
There was breathlessness,
There was death,
But, there is hope,
There is togetherness,
There is support,
There is recovery,
There is compassion,
With emotions hidden behind the masks,
There is “human connection”,
The wind whirled in inspiration,
It told the world,
They are fine,
They will overcome the pain,
They will come back,
And they will never be the same again!
