I Changed One Small Aspect of My Diet and Lost 15 Pounds

Trying to lose weight can feel like the most intimidating process on the planet. Although we’re told its a simple equation- just eat healthy and exercise, in practice it’s not simple at all.

Food is delicious. It’s a social event. It’s something you have to make decisions about multiple times each day. It’s wonderful and amazing and frustrating and exhausting.

Exercise is also hard. There are only so many hours in a day and taking out time to work out can be difficult. If you’re not a fitness guru it can be hard to even know what to do in the gym. Not to mention gym memberships are expensive and working out isn’t always fun (although how you feel after usually is).

Over the years I’ve started working slowly on improving my health habits and changing my lifestyle. I was eating healthier and working out more and got into a pretty good routine. But I certainly still wasn’t at peak fitness.

The thing is, I was scared to do more and lose my balance. To me, balance is more important than anything else.

To me, balance means enjoying healthy food in abundance but not refraining from indulging in unhealthy treats. It means not being afraid to take a rest day from the gym to enjoy time with friends. It means saying yes to going to delicious restaurants with friends and stopping at fast food places occasionally because sometimes that convenience is essential.

Balance allows you to sustain a health lifestyle so you don’t feel burdened by health. It allows you to keep eating healthy and exercising for years in a good routine because you don’t feel restricted or like you’re missing out on the fun things in life.

Let’s be honest, food, and socialization with food, is one of the greatest joys in life.
