I am currently attending the University of Arizona and I am majoring in Physiology with a minor in Spanish. I will be starting my second year in the Fall of 2018. I was first drawn to this school by their amazing medical program, but it wasn’t until I visited that I fell in love with the campus. None of the other college campuses amazed me as U of A did, I knew right then that this would be the perfect school for me to pursue my goals of becoming a trauma surgeon and medical researcher. My number one goal has always been to better lives whether it was through research or operating in the O.R. I want to help future generations by investigating autoimmune conditions to create better treatments. I want to help the community has much as I can by providing medical care to those who do not have access to it. My passion for the field drives me to become the doctor I have always aspired to be.

My father was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition called dermatomyositis. He was in and out of hospitals and eventually was left to die by negligent physicians who only followed the book. He was later transferred and cared for by amazing doctors who spent their days and nights investigating treatments to save my father. Due to these physicians, my father was saved and recovered, but very slowly. My father’s experience in the hospital resonated within me. Those doctors taught me things that I could never forget: Always think outside the box, go above and beyond what is expected, and never give up. Since then, I knew what I had to do and who I wanted to be. Even today, my father’s condition continues to keep him from doing things he once was able to do. I hope to give patients in the future their lives back through my research. My journey of fulfilling these ambitions have only been possible through scholarships.

Before I has started college, I had saved money that was given to me by my parents and any money that I would get on special days such as birthdays. I soon found that it is not enough to pay for my living in the university but with the help of scholarships I have been able to continue my education. My family is unable to fully pay for the expenses due to their income and the amount of people dependent on it. I have tried my best to help pay by getting a summer job and applying to as many scholarships as I could. I am determined to reach for my goals and do whatever it takes to get there. I cannot wait to do my part in changing the face of medicine and become the doctor I aspire to be.
