Actions that made me Smarter

We view education as a crucial component of life preparation. People believe the key to success is to work hard in class and earn high grades.

However, be truthful how much mathematics do you actually utilize on a daily basis? How often do you think back to high school chemistry? How frequently do you reflect on the outstanding books you read in English class?

The truth is, the most successful people today are the ones who can learn on their own. Live an enriching life, study the things that interest you, and you’ll be ahead of most people today.

This article deconstructs the things I’ve done in my life to help me grow as a person. I’ve been extremely fortunate in my life, and I’ve had many unique experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. And I hope that others can take a few snippets from my journey and use them to better themselves.

Reading is the best way to become acquainted with new ideas. Reading allows you to gain an intimate understanding of how other people perceive the world. It’s far more in-depth than TV or even casual conversation. I feel like I know my favorite authors better than many of my friends.

Plus, a lot of books have some incredible ideas inside. Reading a lot of great authors, absorbing those ideas, and then synthesizing those ideas into your thinking can make you really, really smart.

This is especially true if you read a wide range of books on a variety of topics. You can become somewhat multidisciplinary if you have a diverse set of interests, which can help you apply the lessons of one field to another.

People mock philosophy because they believe it is unsuitable for any profession. Marketing can lead to a job in marketing, and computer science can lead to a job in computers, but who in their right mind would hire a philosophy major?

However, it turns out that philosophy is extremely important. This is due to the fact that it teaches you how to think logically. That’s something you’d think people would be able to do without training, but apparently not. I guess the human brain didn’t evolve to be so logical.

Philosophy taught me how to think through an argument, be logical, and come up with a logical solution. That is a skill required for almost any job in the new economy.

Many of the brightest people I know grew up playing chess or another strategy game. Of course, you could argue that this is simply because smarter people are more drawn to strategy games. And I don’t have any experimental data to back up my hypothesis. But, intuitively, I believe it works both ways.

This is because playing chess allows you to practice thinking strategically, which is essential if you want to do difficult things in real life.

Speak with someone who attended Harvard Business School and then went on to start their own business. Most will tell you that starting their own business taught them 100 times more than studying in a classroom. They’ll tell you that some of their business school theories were useful, but nothing could have prepared them for the realities of running a business.

In my life, it’s been the same way. I’ve read a lot of great books, and I’ve learned from a few fantastic professors in school. But the things I’ve actually done have shaped me a lot more.

It’s difficult to explain how real-world experience helps you grow; to fully comprehend, you must do something challenging for yourself. But I’d say these experiences stood to benefit me in three ways.

First, I developed a lot of resiliency that you can’t learn in a classroom. Of course, in the short term, it feels terrible. However, in the long run, it makes you much stronger.

Second, real-world experience provides you with unfiltered knowledge of how the world works. Schools and books can only teach you about what they can express in words. But so much of life occurs subconsciously, and we can’t really explain it to others. The only way to learn that stuff is to get out there and do something difficult.

Finally, real-world experience is much more important. It’s difficult to remember what you read in a textbook, but it’s much easier to remember what you actually experience for yourself. Real-world lessons “sink in” much better, and you’re more likely to remember them the next time you’re in a similar situation.

I will preface that I’m completely biased with this since trading has changed my life completely. It has given me professional and financial freedom and a passion that drives me every day to be the best version of myself.

Trading has improved my decision-making ability. Trading requires the development and implementation of a precise decision-making process that will result in the best possible outcome for your capital.

Improving your decision-making process will not only allow you to make a lot of money trading assets. It will also vastly improve your decision-making abilities in both your personal and professional lives, thereby improving the quality of your life.

Trading is not the only area of life where you must take big risks, weigh risk versus reward, and calculate your chances of success.

Trading has forced me to become self-aware.

Trading forces you to learn how to do this if you want to make money from the markets. If you can master this skill, you will learn how to achieve better results in your life for yourself and others.

Trading will assist you in developing skill sets that will assist you in developing a more accurate understanding of reality.

Trading can help you develop skills and habits that will help you succeed in many other entrepreneurial endeavors. Running a business constantly entails weighing the risk versus reward of potential decisions, taking calculated risks, and determining the most efficient use of capital.
