This post is dedicated to the new movie by Shoojit Sircar — October.

Seldom do you come across movie that makes you think and by think I mean ‘soul searching’. Well October does just that! It makes you laugh at a near death experience. Holds your hand and tags you along a journey where people like you and me are forced to ask the big questions -

Do we live or merely stay awake from 9- 5pm?

Are we willing to go that extra mile for people we call friends? or more fundamentally, do we really have friends?

So, when the main protagonist stays up all night, nurses and visits the hospitalized colleague while the colleague’s best friend is bothered about dinner and working extra shifts, you wonder which side are you on?

Are you the practical kind or the emotional one? Where is the fine balance between the two?

The protagonist’s straightforward answers, his tactlessness and defiance of ‘rules’ gets to your nerves, but slowly his humane side nudges you , when he says -

“Ask her if she wants to live, actually, who wouldn’t want to live? I can’t think anybody who wouldn’t!”

The seasons are correlated to the protagonist’s awakening and his transformation from a carefree young adult to a responsible human being as he sees life slip through the eyes of his colleague is magical to say the least.

He begets love so selflessly in an age where every thing including love is a mere give and take policy that you can’t help but simply watch in awe.

To a person who loses temper at every small incident, is a difficult person and a headache to his co-workers and boss , he becomes a pillar to a family he has no relation with and maintains the bond forged in death for the sake of humanity even years after the protagonist’s death.

So, the question is will it take a near death experience to motivate you to live your life like there is no tomorrow?
